Taishi Yamabe was born in 1988 in Kurashiki, Okayama. Listening to his father's Japanese drumming and his mother's piano, he became familiar with taiko drums from the age of 3 and made his first appearance on stage at the age of 6. In 2004, at the age of 16, he became the youngest person to win the grand prize in the Taiko Division of the Tokyo International Japanese Taiko Contest. Taishi gained attention as a "once-in-a-50-year talent."
In addition to the classic three-beat of Japanese drums, he also enjoys the rhythm of drums and foreign percussion instruments, and changes them into a variety of sounds. His activities are not limited to the taiko world, but he is also actively expanding into various genres, performing on stage with enka performers such as Hiroshi Itsuki and Fuyumi Sakamoto, Kyary Pamyu Pamyu JPOP, and sessions with SPYAIR in the rock world. In particular, Fuerzabruta's Japanese performance "WA" attracted 5 million people from 30 countries around the world. Taishi performed about 400 times in this long-running performance.
He is known as one of the leading drummers in the Japanese drum world due to his "absolute sense of rhythm" (rather than perfect pitch), extremely fast drumstick work, and his overwhelming presence. He is one of Japan's proud Japanese drummers and creators. He also composes Japanese songs including taiko drums, like the songs included in the CD "TAISHI" released in March 2019 that shows the new possibilities of Japanese drums and the splendor of Japanese music in his works. Taishi is a drummer as well as stage director.
With the Kurashiki Tenryo Taiko "Ittou" as the backing band, Taishi has formed a unit of only Japanese drums. Thier powerful Japanese drum concerts that have been well received.
